Hands down one of my favorite TV commercials in recent memory has to be the Old Spice “Smell Like a Man, Man” campaign starring @IsaiahMustafa.  You probably know it better as the “I’m on a Horse” ad.  Not only did the campaign take home multiple awards at Cannes this year, but it truly crossed over to pop culture (my favorite is “I’m on a cake”).

Now the Old Spice team has dialed it up through a stellar social media campaign that takes engagement to a whole new level.  Lots of brands have used Twitter as a way to have a dialogue with consumers.  But in what I think is a first, Old Spice is actually doing a YouTube video response to people who mention the Old Spice campaign on Twitter.  Even better, the video responses actually have Isaiah Mustafa responding in character in the video.  So far celebs like @TheEllenShow, @ApoloOhno and @KevinRose have been lucky enough to receive responses.    My personal favorite has to be the response to @TheEllenShow [embedded video below]

Disclaimer – I work at P&G, which owns the Old Spice brand.  But it is still a really cool digital marketing campaign.

At the beginning of November, producer Fede Alvarez posted a video on YouTube called “Ataque de Panico” (Panic Attack).   Six weeks later, the 5 minute film he produced for $300 has been viewed 3.5 million times and just landed Alvarez a $30 million movie deal from Ghost House Pictures.

When $300 can produce something of this quality, you begin to see why traditional media & entertainment companies are in trouble.  And it also makes you think twice about how much you are paying your agency for that latest TV commercial as well…

Thanks to Adam Cohen, I came across one of the most brilliant pieces of digital marketing that I have seen in awhile.  The ad is for the Nintendo Wii and their latest game, Wario Land.

Creative like this is why digital is transforming our jobs as marketers and Brand Managers.  If you haven’t seen what I am talking about, go check it out now at:

I’m a huge believer in the power of “Web 2.0″; in the power of social computing to change the fabric of how society interacts with each other other.  So when I saw a book at the library that took the opposite stance and accused the Internet of killing society, I had to pick it up.  After spending the last two days reading  The Cult of the Amateur: How Today’s Internet is Killing Our Culture by Andrew Keen, I have really been thinking if there might be some downside implications of social computing that I haven’t thought about.  It’s an interesting challenge to take the position or opinion that is completely different than yours.  So inspired by the book, I decided to jot down 4 ways Web 2.0 might be flawed…and why I might be wrong for being such a strong believer: (more…)

Nike does it again with their Director’s Cut of “Take it to the next level” from Guy Ritchie.  The original video was good but this extended version is just stellar
