At the beginning of November, producer Fede Alvarez posted a video on YouTube called “Ataque de Panico” (Panic Attack). Six weeks later, the 5 minute film he produced for $300 has been viewed 3.5 million times and just landed Alvarez a $30 million movie deal from Ghost House Pictures.
When $300 can produce something of this quality, you begin to see why traditional media & entertainment companies are in trouble. And it also makes you think twice about how much you are paying your agency for that latest TV commercial as well…

CGI FX are a skill. Storytelling is an art. This was a CGI FX lesson. As far as story, it's War of the Worlds in 5 minutes and earthlings lose. Hope he has a good writer working with him in Hollywood.
cool flick… and good for him for getting the deal. And yes, people should realize that technology is allowing so much more possibility beyond the bloated agency budgets of the past five years.
I think it's a good lesson in the power of getting your "beta" product out there ASAP. Lots of people have good ideas, but when you actually can show people your vision and start the marketing before the product is even finished there's a much higher chance of convincing people to cut a deal.
